Jean Assamoa, originally from Cote d’Ivoire Ivoire West Africa and currently residing in Canada and a Canadian Citizen has been awarded the Jury’s Special Recognition at the recently held Kilimandjaro Music Awards in Toronto Canada, for his immense contribution to the Arts in Canada and North America.
Founded in 2010 the Kilmandjaro Music Awards is the most important and biggest Music Award for African Artistes.
Jean Assamoa is the founder and artistic director of Akwaba Cultural Exchange and the Milton African and Multicultural Festival.
He comes as a packaged professional Dancer Comedian, Musician, Actor Fashion Promoter, model Trainer, music and dance instructor, public speaker and Choreographer.
With over 25 years of performance and teaching under his belt in Africa, Europe, America and Canada, Jean Assamoa, has worked with Canadian and American-based cultural centres, public libraries and festivals.
The Canadian-Ivorian has won different awards in New York City and has been awarded several certificates of recognition and appreciation, as well as the prestigious Award of Excellence from the Mississauga Multicultural Festival, alongside a trophy he won for best traditional music at the festival of fusion held in Canada.
Jean Assamoa at a young age dedicated himself to the promotion of cultural literacy by sharing his ancestral legacy worldwide.
At the age of 18, he became a member of the Sekedoua Theatre of Koumassi (Abidjan) and the Griot Cultural of Cocody (Abidjan). He travelled and performed with these performing companies, after which he enrolled in the National Institute of the Arts in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, focusing on performing Arts, Dance and Theatre education.
Between 1989 and 1995 Jean Assamoa studied at the Prestigious School of Dance and Cultural Exchange, the foundation Rose-Mairies Guiraud in Cocody-Riviera, Cote d’Ivoire in the areas of Dance Education, musicology and performing Art.
Jean Assamoa currently teaches and performs all over the province of Ontario, Canada.
